I watched the game last night

For that to be a potential one for the books an instant classic, it really looked like a game of indoor street scrap ball to me. Memphis had to call a time out within the first 35 seconds of the game. Good move on Coach Calipari's part, as the team drained three's after that. But over all, a game that is between the #1 and #2 team's in the nation, especially this late in the season, I anticipate and expect better ball movement and better play making. I just did not see it in either team.  I was simply not impressed, and neither team to me looked like a number one caliber team. Go ahead shoot me down, I do not really care, we are approaching the wrap up of the regular season, Memphis was undefeated going into this match-up, Tennessee had only two losses...I expected  a lot more and got a lot less.

I am sure Tennessee will shoot up to the number one slot, but it will be short lived. Expect both Memphis and Kansas to fall this week with their losses.

You are absolutely right. The gameplay was horrible. The only exciting part was closeness of the score. The only defense that was evident was the gameplan for Chris Lofton. Everyone else was a self check. Wild shots, bad passes, bad choices and obvious pushing and shoving on every possession. That was not a well played game.

It was a total scrap match, and I am sorry, I expect more out of a #1 #2 match-up in November. Call me a true basketball fan, but that game was ugly.

Looked like a YMCA matchup to me.  But it was entertaining.

Not sure who thought it would be a classic except in the State of Tennessee.

Here in Tennessee the hype mostly was it would be for bragging rights to the State of Tennessee college basketball for awhile ignoring that Vanderbilt is half way tween the two  and positioning for a "better seed" in the dance.

I can attest for glitz and excitement on Beale Street.  Memphis is a more rugged and physical team than Tennessee.. Thank goodness that Tennessee was able to out scrap and out battle Memphis. What the game missed in artistic merit was filled by the intensity and effort  of the players. Every trip to the glass was a risk of bodily injury. IF not for the scrapping, Tennessee part the outcome would most surely be different.

With the schedule that Tennessee has left in the conference any place they have in the polls could be short lived and many think Memphis and Tennessee should stay one-two since Memphis only has one win. I will find it interesting to see when the dance is here how much ball movement and play making there is compared to scrapping for a win.

Tennessee looked great against Memphis. I don't think Vandy can hang with them.

No great plays? What about all the 3's the Memphis hit in the beginning? What about the fadeaway NBA 3 JaJuan Smith hit to keep the game close in the first half? What about Derek Rose carrying his team and hitting jumper after jumper? What about Chism (6'10") stepping out and hitting 2 big 3s in the 2nd half? What about J.P. Prince? What about Tyler Smith's HUGE shot in the lane with a defender all over him? And what about those clutch free throws at the end of the game?

Don't discount the fact that both teams are great on defense too. You're gonna see this kind of scrappy game when both teams hate each other and both teams are big on playing "controlled chaos" Don't forget, one of these teams made it to the Elite 8 last year without Derek Rose and the other was one point away from beating the National Runner up without Tyler Smith and J.P. Prince.

Granted this is coming from a UT fan, but hey. . . :)

No great plays?

Those rainbow threes that JaJuan Smith were hitting to help keep Tennessee in the game during Memphis' 3-pt barrrage were sick.

Prince coming through in the second half was big also. The one thing that I took from this game was the same opinion that I had before the game started. Tennesse was the better team. The Vols should have had the game wrapped up with 10 minutes to go.

All good points, TennFan. There were good plays amongst the chaos.
