March Maddness Hits the ACC

Posted on: March 2, 2008 10:45 pm

After this weekend in the ACC, March Madness has clearly hit the ACC.

Saturday, dook was taking on NC State at the RBC Center in Raleigh. dook trailed NC State for the duration of most of the game, State had a convincing lead, so they thought, but dook chipped away at the lead and ultimately won the game with DeMarcus Nelson hitting free throws.

Also Saturday, Carolina traveled to Boston College. Tyrese Rice shot lights out with over 30 points in the first half for the Eagles. Carolina also overcame a huge deficit in the second half to ultimately defeat BC by ten with a final score of 90-80.

And this evening, Clemson traveled to College Park to take on Maryland. The Terps had a convincing double digit lead as well. Clemson came back in the last 11 minutes of the game and outscored the Terps 34-11, winning the game on a clutch 3 pointer and forcing some key turnovers at the end of the game.

Looks like it was not a good weekend to be the home school? dook and Carolina winning really does not affect the ACC too much, keeps them both tied for first in the league, but how does Maryland losing to Clemson affect the middle tier of the league? Well this win for Clemson sets them apart from everyone else, putting them at 9-5, Virginia Tech 8-6 and Maryland 8-7.

Definitely March Madness has begun in the ACC...

March Maddness Hits the ACC

It's so mad that it apparently has 2 "d''s in the word "madness"!!  Now THAT's MAD!!!

Anyway, I always get depressed this time of year, because you just know the ACC tourney will have a few fantastic games, an upset or two, and then the boneheads at the NCAA selection committee will snub all but 4 ACC teams so that the weak-as-heck Big Ten can have 6 bids and the Pac-10 can have 7.  And you can't forget the Big 12 and its 11 great teams, and the SEC has got like 45 automatic berths locked up.  Big East?  More like Big "Every Single Team Still Has a Chance At the NCAA Tournament Because the Selection Committee All Went To UConn" East!

Why does the ACC always get the least number of bids despite being the best or next-best conference every year?  Note to the committee: nobody wants to watch Arizona State vs. Minnesota or Texas A&M vs. Syracuse in the Sweet 16!  Booooo!

March Maddness Hits the ACC

Looks like the Heels are #1.  That's been a kiss of death over the past week and a half or so.

Work with me!  I'm trying to believe the Noles have a shot!

The ACC Toon-a-ment is always the most exciting conference tournament.  Look at how the teams perform each time the Big Ten-ish try to step up at the beginning of the year.  I'm old enough to remember the rumbles from the ACC-Big East beatdown.  Georgetown v. Duke... The Cuse v. The Heels... Seton Hall v. Maryland... Those were wars in the 80s!

It truly is MadD!

North Carolina is the #1 seed out of the ACC and not to jump the gun they are the best team in the Nation hands down. They will win the National Title.

Both Duke and North Carolina are certainly deserving of number 1 seeds. Most likely if one of them win the ACC tourney they are a lock. With Lawson back for UNC,I give them a slight edge.
