dook goes down to WVU...is rat king's job safe?
This year, dook was not anticipated to do well, however, they exceeded many people's expectations on the hardwood. They separated themselves into the top tier in the ACC for quite some time, then it came down to the final game with UNC as to who was going to be the regular season Champion (as it should be). There would be no ties this year, UNC won the regular season outright.
Then onto the ACC tournament, dook loses to a fiesty Clemson squad in the semi-finals, some argue that dook was just tired, the guys did not have their legs, they were simply tired...seemed like more excuses to me. A team of dook's caliber should not be tired or losing their legs this late in the season, dook is supposed to be one of the top tiered team's in the nation. With dook's loss in the ACC tourney, they lose the opportunity to play in the East Region and stay here in the Triangle, playing at the RBC Center in Raleigh. They are penalized and placed in the West bracket as a #2 seed (I think was too high, as last year's seed was, heck last year I though they did not deserve an invite to the field of 65..another blog) - but yet they got to play in Washington, D.C.
A short jaunt to Washington, D.C., dook should be ready to take on #15 seed, Belmont, this was very much NOT the case. Belmont stuck with dook the entire game, and it took dook's @#$% luck in the dwindling seconds to win the game. I felt for those kids from Belmont, they played their hearts and souls out, really have NOTHING to be ashamed of. Enter the round 2 match-up of the West Virginia Mountaineers, coached by Bobby Huggins, a seasoned coach in his first year at WVU (not my favorite coach mind you), but Huggins had his team mentally and physically ready to take on dook. Again, another close match-up, WVU stuck around, dook lived and died by the three, as they did all season long. Well WVU prevailed, as dook missed many opportunities beyond the arc.
After the game, I heard a bit of rat king's press conference, he was speaking about DeMarcus Nelson, said that since he was the lone senior on the squad, he was the reason that the team had chalked up 28 wins, and Nelson was just tired or some other BS. Seriously?? REALLY? What about Paulus, Scheyer, Singler, Henderson, or Zoubek, is there NO CREDIT to be given to these players? Come on rat, have more class than this! You are a coach of a team, not a singular player.
Okay, now that dook has missed out on the SWEET 16 AGAIN, and had an early exit from the tourney AGAIN, are the dook alumni base going to start getting restless? Are the boosters going to start calling the AD and make demands? Or are you going to sit on your laurels and say hmm everything is great in dookieland? Cause it really is not. Seriously, any other school in the ACC, this type of crap would be unacceptable...rat would be finding a new lair for his cheese horde. Look at other school's in the ACC...is rat just done? Does he need to step aside and join the hairclub for men and stop dying his hair pitch black, and relax and retire with a daquiri in his hand? Makes you wonder is his heart still in it....

dook goes down to WVU...is rat king's job safe? This seem like the race for the White House;but the men in white shirts and expensive ties will just say,we were tiredand with those young kids we got what we deserve. All the Doookie pundants we try to protect Rat man. When you have all that talent and try to live by the the 3,you should expect an early exit. He will keep his job at Dook. Our Tarheels will have to win it all to show that the ACC is not as weak as the number 2 and 3 teams have showed. Go HEELS |

He is one of the best Coaches in the Country...look what he did with this team...Wv was preceived as a soft finesse team the last 4 years..now they have morphed into a blue collar punch you in the face club...and Duke got beat in a street fight... First, congrats, Slaton. Fantastic game by your Mountaineers. They have a shot at a deep run. And you're right about Huggins, like the man or not. Even when you're not getting the recruits that get all of the publicity, he's going to take even higher profile school's (mean no offense in saying that) third or fourth options that wound up not getting the scholarship offer after all, and molding them in his image. He places chips on kids shoulders and they usually respond. You may not always have the most talented basketball team, but he will always have them ready to play without the slightest clue of what it means to back down. Again, well done and I wish them luck. They are the better team. I knew Alexander would feast today, and right now it's hard not to like the kid Mazzulla. He did whatever he wanted, all day long. Their confidence should be sky high... This year, dook was not anticipated to do well, however, they exceeded many people's expectations on the hardwood. Very well said. |

dook goes down to WVU...is rat king's job safe?First and foremost, it is Duke, not "Dook". The way you spell gives an indication of your IQ-- you were probably too drunk to fish more than once in your "lives". Duke lost because they did not hit their 3-point shots; if they would have made 30-40% of the shots game over and they would be moving on to 3rd round against Xaiver. Coach K will stay at Duke for as long as he wants. Let's add it up: 3 National Championships, 10 ACC Championships, and the most important stat of all, a 97% graduation rate among his players. Yes, it helps to be rich to attend Duke if one is not on athletic scholarship, but one has to be smart to stay enrolled. A 97% graduation rate! So have your moment and gloat that bad evil Duke is no longer in the tournament ( almost all the NCAA basketball programs can only dream of a 28-6 season with one senior on the roster). Every team that beats Duke act as if they just won the National Championship and that their "pure" program triumphed over the dark evil forces of Duke's program. It is just a game, everyone; someone wins and someone loses. Get a life!! |

Obviously, NEWBIE, you have no idea, who I am, read my name and understand, look at who I pull for. A true Carolina fan spells it dook. I respect the rivalry, why do you think, I mentioned the players, when rat king said Nelson carried the team this season, that is simply wrong. As for my IQ, you have no idea, you really don't want to go there. |

Look out next year....and we are still playing this year!!! dooksuxdookie AV - I was pulling for WVU today, and am rather pleased that they upset dook today!Dook..what the heck is wrong with Huggins?!?!?!?... He is one of the best Coaches in the Country...look what he did with this team...Wv was preceived as a soft finesse team the last 4 years..now they have morphed into a blue collar punch you in the face club...and Duke got beat in a street fight... Slaton,I am not a big fan of Huggins, never have been. He has done a magnificent job with this squad getting them where they need to be. I do respect Huggins. I am not trying to take any thunder away from the Mountaineers win or Huggins coaching ability, merely questioning the fact, is rat king's heart still in Coaching, or is it time for him to step aside? Regardless of the fact that I am a Carolina fan, he seems to lack passion on the sidelines. If this is the case, than certainly it is time for a change at the helm for dook Basketball. |
