I grew up in a suburb of Baltimore. My parents took me to countless Baltimore Orioles games, but I never (even to this day) have attended an NFL game. But, since I was from the Baltimore area, you pulled for the local teams...the Orioles, the Skipjacks, the Blast and the Colts - now I never pulled for the Terps - but that's a different story for a different day.
We were proud of the Colts, the heritage that our team had, and we despised the Redskins. That is, until a snowy day in late March of 1984, when I was at home due to a school being closed for weather. I actually remember the day quite vividly, it was the lead story all day long on my 13" black and white tv, the image of the mayflower trucks leaving town in the middle of the night.
I remember thinking - that jerk Irsay...what a sneak! I also remember my Dad at one point in time telling me that the mayflower trucks from a distance looked like someone flipping you the bird, so everytime I saw that footage, it felt as though Irsay was flipping us off. So at this point, I had to find a new team to pull for, and it certainly could not be those stinky Redskins...so, I went for the next closest team, which happened to be the Philadelphia Eagles.
To be fair, I was extremely excited when Baltimore got the Ravens, and I do pull for them, as I do pull for the Panthers (by default, living in North Carolina). But, I will never be converted, nor will I switch (just like I would NEVER switch from being an O's fan to any other major league fan). Sorry, it just is not happening, for dook, once a fan of a team, that is who she sticks with, through the good and bad times!
Go Eagles! Gotta love that beautiful Eagle green! (I know I know, my season is over)...who you ask am I pulling for this weekend? The Packers, they are my choice to win it all, have to stick with your conference, that is unless it's dook...anyone but dook!

Best CBB Conference ACC vs Big East?
I am an ACC gal, always have been always will be. I grew up in the 'burbs of Baltimore, Maryland as one of the sole North Carolina fans. In high school, this 5'3" (well I was 5'4") chick played basketball, was actually the point guard...but always seemingly got into foul trouble for retaliatory fouls. Coach would always point out someone...and enlist me to get 'em, and then yell at me for getting caught. Well I seemed to have digressed here a bit, I was buddies with all the guys on the basketball team as well, so my buddies were mostly Maryland, some Virginia, some West Virginia and of course some Georgetown fans. Now that I think about it, surprisingly, no dook fans, interesting.
We would all sport our team gear, which consisted of sweat suits, lots of hoodie sweatshirts, and of course a satin jacket. The razzing commenced at the beginning of the season and continued all the way through the end. We would sport those satin jackets all day long too (any child of the 80's knows exactly to what I am referring to). It was a must to wear your gear the day of or before a game as well of as after if they won in celebratory fashion. The razzing and taunting mostly went on between myself and the Maryland fans as well as one Georgetown fan. Those were the days...
A lot of people will argue, which of these two conferences is better, ACC or Big East. Honestly, they are the best two, have both staked their claim on this many years ago. However, it does fluctuate from year to year which conference is better. Both conferences are fantastic and have excellent programs that facilitate exciting basketball. Growing up in the area in which I did, you or I do at least appreciate great basketball, and must say other conferences do not have anything on the ACC or the Big East. I lived in Huntsville, AL for four years, and was stuck watching SEC basketball coverage...yawn, I was excited to pick up an East Coast game whenever I could. Sorry, West Coast, y'all ain't got anything on these two conferences.
Who does dook think is the best conference? The ACC of course!!!! Silly question...

BCS vs Playoff
Once again, we just finished a season that started off with an amazing victory by an underdog surprising the entire college football nation. If we all need to be reminded, Appalachian State defeated Michigan Labor Day weekend in the Big House 34-32. App State's win over the Wolverwine's opened up one of the craziest seasons I can recall in recent years in Division I. My problem is how the BCS is set up, there were several team's that should have had a chance to go for the National Championship and were unable to, because the system is set up wrong. Several of the bowl games were simply boring.
The NCAA has a playoff system set in place for every other level of college athletics, why is Division I College Football different? The difference my friends is greed, plain and simple, in order to be bowl eligible, you have to win six games, which, I think is absolutely ridiculous. Oh shew, we have won our six games, we will get our bowl invitation. What ever happened to the hard work ethic for each game, giving it your all each time you lace up your cleats and put your pads on? The NCAA could put in place a playoff system in Division I, it would work, and they could still utilize the bowl sponsorships but in a different manner. Each round could be at the same locations of the bowl sites, and be sponsored by the same sponsor, for instance the Chick-fil-A round in Atlanta, GA. This would work, and they would still get the money.
In recent year's team's have not been put in the championship game because they were not a championship caliber team. Who's place is it honestly to make this decision? Why are they robbing us of a potentially exciting and new championship run? This year team's were left out of the BCS Championship that were late number ones Missouri and West Virginia, but then had to play in their Conference Championships. Both of these team's lost in their Conference Championship's and the door to a BCS Championship was abruptly slammed on them. In a playoff system at least these team's would have been given an opportunity to demonstrate that they were championship caliber team's, and their own destiny was in their hands.
Bottom line the system is broken, it needs to be fixed. Look at the FCS (formerly Division I-AA) their 16 team playoff system works, has for years, find something that works and implement it. I guarantee fans will be a lot happier.
